Dilemma: Burlesque vs. Metal
Posted by Skrud at Sunday, October 1st 2006 at 4:03am
I’m stuck. On Saturday, October 14th I’m double-booked. On the one hand, I made plans to attend the Suicide Girls Burlesque Show with a bunch of friends, and on the other hand I had planned to see the Testament concert. This is a very tough decision, so I seek the input of you, the friend who somehow stumbles upon this blog post.
The Case for the Suicide Girls Burlesque Show
I’m not the kind of guy that goes to strip clubs on a regular basis. (In fact there are only two occasions where I’ve ever been in a strip club. The first was when I was 17 or so and was just curious – the second was when some guys from Ubisoft were visiting Concordia, buying tons of booze and eventually declared “to the strip club!”). Seriously, strip clubs are pretty depressing places. However SucideGirls is a strange and much documented web site that is usually, well … tasteful. A lot of girls use it as a social networking site, and get paid to do nude photo shoots, and then guys pay to look at the pictures. Most of the girls on SuicideGirls are undeniably gorgeous, and weird enough to be interesting.
The above paragraph is a mediocre attempt to justify what I’m really thinking: “hot naked goth chicks.”
The Case for Testament
I have never seen Testament live, however my guitar teacher – having been a huge Testament fan – taught me many Testament songs and solos, mainly because his guitar teacher, Alex Skolnick was in the band up until 1992, and recorded and wrote their most classic and awesome songs. The reason I want to go to Testament so badly is because Alex is joining them on this tour, and I’ll finally get the chance to see all these songs I’ve learned over the past few years of my guitar playing on stage, live, the way they’re supposed to be played.
(I’m also going to see Alex with his jazz trio tonight at Boodha Bar, which I would highly recommend to everyone, whether or not you like jazz. Tickets are only $12 – I intend to get mine at the door).
Well, dear reader, which one would you choose?

Wow Skrud… the fact that you want to go to a nudie show and wrote about it in your blog just completely threw me off… I didn’t think you had it in you. :P
Anyways, although “hot naked goth chicks” is usually a good enough reason for just about anything, I think that Testament concert trumps it. Getting to hear the songs you’ve been practicing live and played by their masters sounds pretty cool to me.
But that’s in an alternate world where I’m a music freak (which I’m not) and have been practicing Testament (which I haven’t). So hot naked goth chicks for me!!!
well, personally, i already had my tickets to SG about a month ago, but i’m going with this other friend of mine.
“weird enough to be interesting”…ramen. hot naked goth chicks ftw.
I was supposed to go the the SG show too. I bailed out. Not sure if there are any tickets left, if I change my mind… damn.
On one hand there is obvious sentimental value to see the Testament show for you. However, since you are seeing him at his jazz show which is a much more intimate venue i’d imagine. At least its better then a stuffy crowd of headbangers =P
I say please the god’s of metal and go for the hot naked goth girls. And get me tockets too!!!
No dude, the Jazz show is nothing like a metal show. He just plays Jazz. Intimate, yes, but it’s not the music I would be seeing at Testament.
Hot naked goth chicks is the way to go.
And I’m a GIRL.
Yeah skrud.. I gotta say. this might be a turning point in your life. Will you forever choose hot sext women, or will you forever choose sweaty vulgar musicians?
Hmmm interesting thought Fig, but what if there are hot sexy sweaty vulgar musician women in the future?
Ask yourself not where you should go, but where would the hot sexy sweaty musican women go? (i’m not a fan of vulgar myself)
I have the same problem. i wanted to go too but I have a housewarming party and a concert that night. I wish I could do it all…
Um, I think you would get more out of Testament, honestly.
SG, meh… :(
