Monty Python and the Holy Grail: Special Edition

Posted by Skrud at Friday, May 12th 2006 at 7:45pm

Yesterday I went on an adventure through downtown Montreal accompanied by Gimli son of Gloin and Sir Harley Cooper. I was trying to find the DVD release of Ghost in the Shell, which is a more difficult feat than I would have imagined. (The difficulty is compounded by the fact that I am very picky, and insisted on the edition that had 5.1 Japanese Audio). Eventually I found exactly the DVD I was looking for at HMV, suprisingly. They also had the usual 2 DVD’s for $30 thing going on, and having found Office Space, I needed something to be disc number 2.

That’s when I stumbled across Monty Python and the Holy Grail. Not only is it a ridiculously hilarious movie, but I think it has the most creative set of Special Features:

  • Subtitles for People Who Don’t Like The Film (taken from Shakespeare’s Henry IV, Part II)
  • Exciting “Follow The Killer Rabbit” Feature!
  • A glorious extra 24 seconds absolutely free!
  • Mono soundtrack in glorious old-fashioned mono.
  • Three mindless sing-alongs
  • How to use your coconuts (an educational film)
  • Monty Python and the Holy Grail in Japanese!
  • A Load of Rubbish – a surprise package of mystery items specially included for the mentally challenged.

That’s on top of the usual “Extra-ordinary Animated Menus with very loud 5.1 Dolby Digital Sound!”. Looks like hours of fun to me!

There is a God, it’s a he, and his name is John Cleese.

Anyone who thinks otherwise should be escorted and thrown to the pit.

Where did you get those coconuts?

    Bring out the dead!

    I’m not dead!

    Oh yes you are.

    No I’m not!

Yes you are. You will be soon.

    But I’m not dead yet!

Oh I can’t just by thinking I’m dying from loughter.

    Hehe!

I remember seeing this special edition. It was so funny how some of the Shakespeare subtitles actually matched the original dialogue. That and the “How to use coconuts” video.

Oh and, um, yeeaah, I’m gonna have to go ahead and say that you made an excellent choice with Office Space. Yeah. Mmm-K? Great.

I was given this edition of the Holy Grail for Christmas. Oh, how I love it. Must watch it again soon!

I thought the lego version of the Camelot sing-a-long was especially funny!
